22 YEARS AGO TODAY: WCW @ Atlanta, GA - Center Stage Theatre - October 19, 1992 (750; sell out; all freebies) WCW Saturday Night taping: Greg Valentine walked out after noticing he wasnt scheduled to appear on upcoming shows; he was scheduled to lose to Sting during the taping 10/24/92: Ricky Steamboat & WCW/NWA Tag Team Champion Dustin Rhodes vs. Arn Anderson & Bobby Eaton The Barbarian vs. Mike McReynolds Van Hammer vs. JD Wolf Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce vs. Joey Maggs & Jeff Daniels The Masked Intruder vs. Erik Watts Johnny Gunn vs. Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker WCW US Champion Rick Rude vs. Eddie Desmond Shane Douglas pinned Steve Austin at 16:34 with a back suplex into a bridge, moments after fighting off an interfering Brian Pillman; after the contest, Douglas fought off Pillman 10/31/92 - featured Jim Ross & Teddy Long conducting an interview with Johnny B. Badd regarding his public relations work and coming back to the ring Nov. 1; moments later, Scotty Flamingo interrupted and said he was prettier than Badd; included comments from Bill Watts in which he thanked the Variety Club charity for letting WCW be part of their event the night before Halloween Havoc and the fans for ordering the pay-per-view; Watts then addressed Sting and Jake Roberts and said he was banning Roberts snakes after the events of Halloween Havoc; featured Ross, beside the King of Cable trophey, introducing a video package hyping the King of Cable tournament which would begin the following week where the winner would win the trophey and have a display at the CNN Center for tour groups; the brackets announced saw Sting vs. Brian Pillman, WCW/NWA Tag Team Champion Barry Windham vs. WCW US Champion Rick Rude, Jake Roberts vs. WCW/NWA Tag Team Champion Dustin Rhodes, and Big Van Vader vs. Tony Atlas, followed by promos from Sting, Rude, Windham, Roberts - with a bandage on his face after Havoc, and Vader; included a vignette of Erik Watts in which he spoke about leadership, competition, intimidation, and his pro wrestling career; featured a recap at the announcement Rude would have to defend the US title against Nikita Koloff at Halloween Havoc, Madusa confronting Dangerously the previous week, Watts announcement regarding Vader subbing for Rude at Havoc, Vader beating Koloff, and Madusa and Dangerously getting into a fight later in the night; included footage from the previous week of Robbie Walker interrupting Cactus Jack & Tony Atlas to speak up for WCW World Champion Ron Simmons who was already in Philadelphia; featured an Up Close segment in which Tony Schiavone conducted an interview with WCW/NWA Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes, during which Rhodes said the media has blown the tension out of porportion with he and WCW/NWA Tag Team Champion Barry Windham, targetted Rude and the US title, and spoke about the impact his father Dusty Rhodes had on the industry; included a promo from Roberts about Watts ruling barring snakes, with Roberts saying he was always the real snake and had more in store for Sting; featured Ross conducting an interview with Michael Hayes, alongside Bobby Eaton, regarding the match later in the show against Erik Watts; moments later, Dangerously came out, insulted Madusa, praised Hayes, and cut a promo on Erik: Vinnie Vegas pinned Marcus Alexander Bagwell at 8:53 after catching Bagwell coming off the top and hitting Snake Eyes; Bagwells nose was taped for the match due to Vegas having broken it two weeks earlier; during the match, Jim Ross noted Halloween Havoc 92 was the most watched WCW pay-per-view since Halloween Havoc 90 Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce defeated Rex Cooper & David Lynch at 4:52 when Slazenger pinned Lynch following the reverse DDT; during the bout, Jim Ross misspoke and said WCW/NWA Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham defeated Steve Williams & Steve Austin at Halloween Havoc Brian Pillman pinned James Clontz with a clip to the leg at 1:40; after the bout, Shane Douglas came out, grabbed the mic, and challenged Pillman to an immediate fight; moments later, Pillman jumped Douglas from behind on the floor with the two then brawling around ringside Johnny Gunn pinned Fred Avery with the Thesz Press at 4:12; during the bout, the crowd chanted Lose some weight at Avery Cactus Jack (w/ Tony Atlas) pinned Robbie Walker with the double arm DDT at 7:14; during the bout, it was announced Cactus, Atlas, & the Barbarian would face Ricky Steamboat, Van Hammer, & Nikita Koloff the following night on The Main Event Nikita Koloff pinned JR King with the Russian Sickle at 1:34; during the bout, it was announced Sting and Jake Roberts would be part of the 8-man Thanksgiving night Thundercage match at the Omni Erik Watts defeated Bobby Eaton (w/ Paul E. Dangerously & Michael Hayes) at 14:45 by pinning an interfering Hayes with a firemans carry into a slam Shane Douglas fought Brian Pillman to a no contest in an impromptu match; only 90 seconds of the bout aired before the program ended; the match came about when Pillman interrupted Ross conducting an interview with Bill Watts and Douglas, during which Watts commented on Erik Watts win earlier in the show and said he would try to get Douglas a match with Pillman for the next week; Pillman then appeared and said it was a shame they couldnt wrestle during this program, with Watts then saying they could and making the match official
