22-year-old girl with cerebral palsy writes novel with foot She was diagnosed with #cerebralpalsy 21 years ago but never lost faith in life. Instead, she has proved with her determination by writing a #novel, using her left foot. Cerebral palsy sufferer Hu Huiyuan from Liu’an City, east China’s Anhui Province, has never been able to go to school; thus the 22-year-old taught herself to read and write instead, according to a CNR report on Wednesday. Although the distance from her chair to the keyboard is far, she studiously uses her foot to type the letters one by one, and has now finished over 60,000 words of her novel. Hu was born prematurely in June, 1993, and doctors thought she would not be able to survive. At the time, Hu weighed only several hundred grams. Around 10 months later, Hu was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, leaving her unable to move most parts of her body, aside from her head and feet. Despite that, Hu learned to read and perform everyday tasks using her feet. Im not a genius but Im very focused,” Hu said. “When I watched TV in my childhood, I learned new words with the subtitles. Hu’s mother Zhang Junhua added that while it was hard to teach her to speak when she was a child, the family didn’t give up. “To teach her a single word, I may have needed to put in a thousand times more effort than other mothers, but I’m very happy that she can finally speak,” said Zhang. When asked about why she started writing a novel, Hu said she was partly inspired after listening to songs by Chinese singer Huo Zun. The singer seemed to stimulate Hu’s imagination about the beautiful scenery of youth, and soon after, she made up her mind to write a novel. The novel is written like a #fairytale, and tells an inspiring tale about the pursuit of dreams and love. It’s serialized online and has been well received.
