2236. Absence of an absolute, as the presupposition of what the organism needs but cannot, completely, find, becomes the positivity of existence. To lack is to strive, to create, to impose, by appropriating what can be found and shaping it in creative ways - each with its own motive. Man fills in this absence with his idea(l)s, giving himself purpose and his existence a meaning. It is this absence of universal, of static lording things, that creates the multiplicities of projected object/objectives that become political, spiritual, and philosophical object/objectives; the motive of each shaping the projection; the attachment of each to the sensual, forming its defining traits. If, instead, there were no lack, no absent absolute, then man would settle for the nihilistic position of making of himself a follower, and a groveler - a miser seeking self-validation in being chosen by this absolute as its representative; or a slave searching for its master, unable to bear the responsibility of self.
