24 August 2013 Time: 8:00 a.m NEMO PUBLIC ADVISORY The National Emergency Management Organization hereby informs the general public that heavy rainfall from Tropical Wave is causing localized flooding across the country. NEMO is monitoring and responding to affected areas. In the Orange Walk District, San Lazaro, Guinea Grass, San Lorenzo, Trial Farm, San Antonio, Carmelita and New Housing Area are experiencing flooding situations. The San Antonio/Yo Creek Road is closed to vehicular traffic. In the Toledo District, waters along the Blue Creek Jordan Road is rising. Other surrounding villages are advised that river levels are rising across the District. River levels in the Cayo and Belize Districts are rising. District Emergency Committees are activated in Orange Walk, Toledo, Belize Rural and Cayo Districts. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving on the highways and secondary roads. Do not cross flooded areas. People in those affected areas are advised to seek safe shelter from flood waters. Rains are expected to continue today and over the next forty eight (48) hours. NEMO is on full alert and advises to call your local NEMO offices for information; for emergency call the NEMO hotline at 936.
