25 years ago, on this very date (that is, November 9th), the Berlin Wall that divided Germany into the Eastern part of the nation from its western part into two regions. (Yeah, its 10th here in India. Sorry Im late. XD) Theres a kind of a neat story to it, and Ill try to summarize it as briefly as I can. In case you didnt know, (correct me if Im wrong) at the time Germany was in pretty grim state having suffered the casualties caused by World War 2, having surrendered to the opposition, with the country divided into four -- each occupied by one prominent force in the Allied Powers, they being American, French, British and Soviet -- which includes the division of the capital, Berlin. Although, strangely, Berlin was under Soviet territory. Eventually, the British and French controlled German regions merged with the American controlled one, resulting in the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). The Soviet controlled region was called German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Then Cold War happened because of the differences between America and the Soviet Union, resulting in their personal influences strengthening the divide between them. Most of the Eastern Germans began to move to the western regions, and in order to stop them from doing so, the Soviet Union erected the Berlin Wall, separating the people from themselves. Pretty dick move, aye, Soviets? You can imagine the unrest this would have caused in East Germany. The Easterners, despite the fears of retaliation by the authorities, protested. But at November 9th, 1989, due to the weird politics and misinterpretation of instructions, the authorities of East Germany drafted a temporary freedom of allowing the East Germans to leave the region and go West until a newer law was being worked on. You can guess that, from this moment, the wall began to fall. This day not only marks the beginning of the German reunion, but also the beginning of the end of the Soviet power. Clinton told the Berliners, You have proved that no Wall can forever contain the mighty power of freedom. All it took was one tiny mistake, and freedom did power through. Even if youre not German, you truly gotta appreciate what the human race together has been through. :) https://youtube/watch?v=_NfM4qwafUc
