25 years ago today New Music Seminar attendees at the Marriot Marquee woke up to discover David Bowie Sound + Vision CD press releases had been slid under their doors overnight. This was the start of the Rykodisc Bowie campaign. The CD included Kurt Loder narrating the press release announcing the whole catalog program and DBs version of Chuck Berrys Round & Round, an old Ziggy b-side making its first appearance on CD. Ironically this prompted a freaked out call from Bowies management team because they were trying to launch Tin Machine at the same time. The concern was that Round & Round was going to take airplay slots that otherwise wouldve gone to Under the God. In reality it was just major label radio guys looking for excuses to fail - and it wasnt easy for them to pitch a Bowie record to radio that wasnt by David Bowie, never mind following Never Let Me Down, so the catalog campaign made a convenient scapegoat.
