25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall-Wow! I was at Messiah College watching the video as history unfolded. Tinnamen (spelling?) Square happened back then, too. I recall wondering which Chinese friends might have known people there at the time. Remember the air raid drills in elementary school? The ones when we went into the hallway and crouched down with our hands over our face..in case the Soviets attacked..like that would save us from nuclear bombs!! Flash forward to the past few years in which I participated in armed intruder drills as a TSS in the city schools. The children are herded into the corners of the rooms and told to get down on the floor so that they cannot be viewed through the glass of the locked classroom doors. I know my friends who chose to homeschool their children did not do so because of the great number school shootings over the past few years, but I imagine they are thankful to have their little ones at home for this reason also...until you hear of the shootings at houses of worship..a movie theather, etc. No wonder children seem to have lost the freedom to ride bikes downtown or trick-or-treat alone as parents read the latest locations of convicted child predators, etc. Makes me more aware of the Scriptural definition of peace (shalom)children playing in the streets without fear... I wish it for you all this Christmas season........ For the girls stolen by Boko Haram who had their innocence and dreams broken... For those in the Ukraine... For the Christians and other religious minorities who fled to the mountains from ISIS.. For those mixed up, mentally ill youth who might want to take a gun and shoot up a school or believe the lie that ISIS is fighting for God.. I wish we all could return to a time before violence....when Isis was just an Egyptian Goddess or a character on Saturday morning TV....when I didnt know the difference between Boko Haram and Procol Harem.....when Bagdad was just a place for magic carpets and lamps and adventures.....or maybe even way back, before Dresden was connected with anything more than china, dolls, and beautiful churches.... God remembers these things and maybe has beautiful dreams of their future wholeness.
