27 years ago today, there was a tragedy on Mississippi Street. This ISNT an April Fools joke. I lived at 111 Mississippi, and across the street from us, a mother committed suicide. She left behind her husband and 3 children that awful April 1, 1987 day. Her husband and she got into a fight, he left for work, she called him, he said he was coming home, and when he got there she had already shot herself in the head. I remember someone at Cooper telling me, and I clearly remember saying, OMG, THATS AN AWFUL April Fools joke!!! Well, it wasnt a joke. My parents were home, and heard and saw the husband running, and screaming up and down Mississippi. My dad called the Security Police, and they turned our home in Police Headquarters. They questioned my parents, the husband, and everyone that was home that day. My mother went with the base Chaplain to the schools to pick up their children. My bedroom faced their house, and I would look out my window at night, the home was covered in yellow crime tape. It was awful!! I hope and pray that after all these years later, her family has found their peace in this awful tragedy.
