28.11.2014 In 3 weeks time I will be vacating my official residence at 5 Sunehri Bagh Road, New Delhi in Lutyens Zone, and will be shifting to a flat in Noida. Though I have always fought for the poor and championed the cause of the common man in India, the truth is that I have myself led a very comfortable and sheltered life. As a son of a High Court Judge in Allahabad, and grandson of a Union Home Minister, Governor and Chief Minister I did not have to face the hardships which the common man or the poor are facing. Then, after I became a High Court Judge in 1991, I had for the next 23 years all amenities and facilities, like an official bungalow, secretaries, servants, chauffer driven official car, free telephone, free electricity and water, etc. I did not have to do marketing to buy foodstuffs, etc, go to banks, drive a car myself, bother about paying any electricity, water, and other bills, etc. Now I will have to do many of these things myself ( aata dal ka daam maaloom ho jayega ). And this in my 69th year when I should be simply relaxing. But how does that matter ? As the Urdu poet Majrooh Sultanpuri says : Sar par hawa-e-zulm chale sau jatan ke saath Apni kulah kaz hai usi baankepan ke saath
