3:45 pm Saturday Weather Update: An unstable airmass continues to bring a few pop up thunderstorms to the state. Most of the action seen earlier over Maui County has slowed down with a few thunderstorms staying over the waters to the North. Now just north of Waimea and parts of Kailua on Hawaii Island is seeing passing rain. Just south of Pahoa... a heavy thunderhead is producing rainfall rates of 3/4 per hour. On Oahu there is an isolated heavy rain cell off of the west shore that has been sitting over the ocean for the last 45 minutes.... Nanakuli will continue to see light rain. We are waiting on a weak front tonight to pass over Kauai and then eventually Oahu. This front will bring light spotty rain to the state...The front is rather shallow and with a more stable airmass building in from the west, most showers are expected to be on the light side with the frontal passage. However, near mauka areas due to orographic lifting... there is the potentially for heavy pockets. SUNDAY will shape up to be a fairly nice day....especially for the western half of the state as a stable airmass fills in behind the front. Winds will pick up for the start of your week as an area of high pressure builds in. Have a wonderful weekend! (Please excuse any typos... updated with aloha on my phone).
