3 August 2013 Saturday Morning Prayer Opening Sentence The Lord is near; do not be anxious, but in everything make your requests known to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving. Phil.4:5-6 Psalm 146 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God, Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; Who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, But the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD! Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. AMEN Psalm 125 Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time on and forevermore. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous might not stretch out their hands to do wrong. Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts. But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways the LORD will lead away with evildoers. Peace be upon Israel! Lesson Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you."Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; as the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water. Isaiah 35:4-7a Collect Remember, O Lord, what you have wrought in us and not what we deserve; and, as you have called us to your service, make us worthy of our calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. AMEN Thanksgiving We give thanks O God to the Word made flesh, our Jesus, who consciously and willingly accepted your plan for humanity; and in doing so, emptied himself of all self indulgence and personal desires. Help us to understand that when we live in relationships of sacrifice and love, when we seek to put others before ourselves, and when we yearn for justice and peace in the world, we reveal to all our kinship to You and to our brother Jesus, your Son. AMEN Prayer for Guidance O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgement, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path may not stumble; through Grace The Lord bless us and preserve us both today and always. AMEN
