30.07.2013 Arsenal .. Experience and Vision I’ve been a fan of Arsenal since forever. I’ve been following up its activities and news of its stars with great interest, from the English star Ian Wright to Trey Henry, the Spanish star Fabregas and finally the Dutch star Van Persie. This interest and love started to turn into hate; I wished that he loses every game to the point of delight due to the policy of football clubs in selling the team stars and their best players. After some thinking I started wondering, why doesn’t the management of the club dismiss the trainer Mr. Arsene Wenger? Why doesn’t the huge crowd of London fans turn on the team like other international clubs when there is fluctuation in levels, decline in results or change in titles? After research I found that the club has set up a clear and detailed plan that is known for everyone, the purpose of this plan is to build a stadium with international standards (Emirates stadium), which costs no less than 390 million pounds, and contains 60,355 thousand fan. What is required at this point is paying debts and covering investment expenses through selling stars. And it’s fine to compete with players who don’t cost the club too much. Inspite of the difference in conditions, there are lessons learnt that we should all know as follow: • Long-term planning and vision for no less than 10 years. • Credibility and transparency with the public and involving them in the decision making process so that everyone shares responsibility. • Upscale audience that respects the operating management that works patiently on results and championships. • The harmony between the coach and the management who follows the strategy and the vision of the club. • Working within what is available through choosing young and not well known players who’ll become stars at a later stage. After these points we find that Arsenal has won a fantastic stadium, reached an advanced level in the EU league, top ranked in the English league, strong and constant competition in all championships, and has excellent young players. In conclusion, if we tried to apply this experience – while taking into consideration our conditions and capabilities – are we going to make it? Do our clubs and unions have long-term strategies? Does our audience and followers have the patience to give us a chance? I leave that to you to answer! Coach and Academi Iyad abu Dahe Palestinian Sports Academy
