Reports from the area indicated that the incident happened around 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday, when a team of Nigerian troops and local hunters were conducting routine surveillance. Five local hunters in the convoy reportedly sustained injuries during the incident and were said to have been brought to Adamawa Specialist Hospital, where they were treated and discharged. Military sources who confirmed the incident said only five soldiers were killed, while dozens others sustained various degree of injuries. A resident of Mubi, who did not want to be mentioned, said he heard a loud bang as the military convoy was passing on routine surveillance, sparking apprehension, as residents thought Boko Haram insurgents had launched another attack on the town again. In the wake of the roadside explosion, the military reportedly intensified stop and search, as its personnel mounted roadblocks so as to fish out remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in the town. As a result of the development, security operatives had modified the existing curfew in the recaptured towns of Hong, Gombi and Mubi, following the development. Meanwhile, Adamawa State government has reviewed the curfew, which was formerly between the hours of 11.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. Security sources said the modified curfew would take effect between 6.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. till further notice.
