31 August: An interesting morning at sea today with large swells, strong winds and unusual wildlife encounters. The weather didn’t put a dampener on our spirits! We saw a predation event upon arrival at the island and an abundance of birdlife brought in by recent storms; a Shy Albatross, White Chin Petrels, Giant Petrels and a Subantarctic Skua. We were also visited by a Bryde’s Whale. These shy whales very rarely interact with our boat but this one circled us repeatedly at close range and surfaced right next to our guests. What a privilege for us all. One of our regular sharks this season, Deux Rossi, then visited us on anchor before we headed home ahead of the heavy rain.
