31 INDUSTRIES FRAUD: EMEM AKPABIO AND ETIDO INYANG BUY OFF SUNSHINE BATTERIES It could be recalled that Gov. Godswill Akpabio while declaring his intention to seek a re-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2011 general election, explained that in his second term, the government would be using public private partnership (PPP) to establish industries in each local government of the state to create more gainful employment opportunities for the teeming youths. He said; We shall explore internal and national cooperation to help move this initiatives forward while fashioning out ways of strategic engagement of our citizens in the Diaspora for the development the state”, he stated. Not until recently when Sir Emem Akpabio and Etido Inyang bought off Sunshine Batteries using a fake Turkish company which shabby signing of MOU took place at night without the consent of the board members, the PPP arrangement would have been a welcome development. It is now clear that the choice of Senas Ukpanah as the chairman, Board of Directors of AKIIPOC, was to fast-track the Akpabio stealing spree. It has come to the common knowledge of every Akwa Ibom people that it is only in Chief Godswill Akpabio’s government that such an important event could be done at night with only three persons - Emen Akpabio, Etido Inyang, and Senas Ukpanah- acting for Akwa Ibom State government. The questions that are begging for answers are: To whose benefit are Emem Akpabio and Etido Inyang acting? Who are the actual owners of the Sunshine Batteries now? If Akwa Ibom State should want to partner a Turkish company for the re-activation of Sunshine Batteries located at Essien Udium, don’t Akwa Ibom people deserve the right to know their partners and how much equity is accruable to them? Another very important question is; Is Emem Akpabio in the employ of Akwa Ibom State? Why was the ceremony hidden from other board members and done when others had vacated their offices for the day. There is no-gain-saying the fact that if Gov Godswill Akpabio is not delivered from self and the Akpabios called to order, one day, Akwa Ibom people would wake up to see Akwa Ibom State property completely taken over by the Akpabio dynasty. Late last year, Akwa Ibom people woke up one day to see a screaming headline, Sir Emem Akpabio Fingers Treasury… Turns Isobara to campaign manager. Up till now, Gov Akpabio cannot explain to the generality of Akwa Ibom people why his brother, an oil company worker, should leave his office and be fingering Akwa Ibom State Treasury. In a more civilized country not (Nigeria anyway), Akpabio would be made to answer both for his crime and that of his brothers. Just last December, Emem Akpabio was alleged to have fingered the treasury and today he is suspected to have bought over the Sunshine Batteries using a fake Turkish company. Now that Emem Akpabio and Etido Inyang have turned themselves into PPP through the help of their elder brother, Senas Ukpanah, it is expedient that Governor Akpabio should consider a sharp change in the membership of AKIIPOC board to enhance effectiveness. What Emem Akpabio and Etido Inyang in collaboration with Senas Ukpanah did amounts to black market which can cause uproar in the state if not properly checked and the perpetrators called to order immediately. One of the board members who spoke with our reporter but refused his name in black and white for security reasons lamented why such thing should take place under democratic rule. He asked; “If those people were genuine, why did they wait until we are all gone before their evil deal. It shows how the state is being run. We are just there for nothing. Imagine such an important decision being taken by one person. My dear, if you say anything now, you are in trouble. According to them, this is their government”.
