365 DAYS OF PRIVATE WORSHIP January 29 – Godliness Take In His Word: Meditate Upon Philippians 3:10-11 “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” Sing this Prayer: “Knowing You” Graham Kendrick youtube/watch?v=tkr9p09k01I Ask Him for This: Lord Jesus, I want to know more of You. Teach me Your ways. Lead me to live a life that is more like You would live and less like my past. Let me become like You on the cross, crucified, dead to self, and yet alive in God. In Jesus’ name, amen. Listen to the Beautiful Word of God: Read 2 Peter 1:1-11 Verse 3 tells us, “His divine nature has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” In Romans 7 Paul gives us insights into the struggle that the believer has in overcoming fleshly desires, and he speaks of the longing to live a godly life. He says in the 15th verse, “…what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate that is what I do.” Have you been there? Are you there now? I find myself in this struggle. I strongly desire to walk in fellowship with Jesus, to obey Him and to follow His direction. But along the way I find that I lose track of that longing, I fall down and give in to some fleshly temptation. Paul in this same chapter describes the problem. He tells us that there is the law of sin that is waging war against the law of our minds. So, there is a war going on inside our hearts and minds. Have you been frustrated by this war? Have you been in the battle but not recognized the enemy’s activities? Well, there is good news! Here it is: God, by His divine power has given us everything that we need to live a godly life. The Word of God tells us that we receive this power through our knowledge of Him. Everything that we need to be victorious in the battles that seem to come to us every day is found in this key, knowing Jesus. When we are focused upon knowing, loving, and serving Jesus, the temptation to take a lesser path disappears. It is when we allow our minds to be lax, and when we begin to dwell upon earthly things that we fall into trouble. I have found that some of the greatest moments of temptation have come after incredible spiritual highpoints. Our enemy is so crafty. But listen to how the Apostle Peter spells out the key to victory, “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” Our goal every day, every moment in fact is to participate in that divine nature that Jesus has supplied to us. When we walk in close fellowship with Jesus we will escape the corruption in the world. What a beautiful promise! Has your love relationship with Jesus been the focus of your life this week? Do you want Him to be the center of your life today? If your answer is yes, then choose today to offer Him every detail and every moment to come. Renew this offering throughout the day. Service of Worship: With each step you take today pray this prayer, “Lord Jesus, I want to know you.” If you have Philippians 3:10-11 memorized, say this verse as a prayer with every step. Begin as you leave this place of worship.
