3rd Annual Lt. Roger Haddock Memorial Trail Ride January 16-19, 2015 Its that time again and were finally ready to start registration for the 3rd Annual Lt. Roger Haddock Memorial Trail Ride at Lake X! This years event will be even bigger and better than last year - even though thats tough to do. There are so many new additions for this years ride, please take a moment to see what is being offered. The most obvious change is that this is now a multi-day event. We will open the gates of Lake X Ranch at 2:00 pm for primitive camping setup on the runway. Set up camp on either side of our 55 wide, 1-mile long paved runway just inside the gate. Youll be close to the shower trailer (8 showers), and restrooms, as well as a short walk or horse ride over to our vendor area, summer kitchen, and entertainment stage. Get set up early and ride your horse around our educational center area and get acclimated to pristine Florida. Youll even see the 1,400 acre Lake X - one of the most beautiful and undisturbed pieces of property in Florida. Dont wait too late to get here - well be closing the gates on Friday night promptly at 10:00 pm. Wake up Saturday morning and get ready for an all-day ride around our nearly 16 mile trail. Well leave around 9:00 am and have lunch at the half-way point around noon. There will be pulled pork, camp beans, slaw, drinks, and apples for the horses. Well have plenty of hay bails to sit on and a huge watering trough for the horses to fill up. Once we get back to camp, put the horses up and make your way over to the vendor area. There will be merchandise vendors of apparel, jewelry, western accessories, tack, ATVs, horse trailers, pickup trucks, and more for you to browse before dinner. And dont worry, dinner Saturday night is on us. Well feed you again Saturday night and we want you to stick around by the campfire afterwards because we have a live band Saturday night performing for your entertainment. Dance the night away under the stars or sit around the campfire and make new friends. Dont stay up too late - theres still plenty to do on Sunday. Well have Cowboy Church at 9:00 am on Sunday morning for those who wish to attend. Make your way back to camp and get your horses saddled up for another fun day of riding. Well have speed events up in our equestrian center as well as an ACTHA Competitive Trail Challenge on a 6-mile trail. Whats an ACTHA Competitive Trail Challenge? A Competitive Trail Challenge (CTC) is a casual trail ride competition that is a 6-8 mile trail ride with judged obstacles (mostly natural) along the way. Each obstacle has its own judge. It is not a timed event. You will have a ride out time (usually within 30-60 minutes) to head out on the trail. You are encouraged to ride with your group, family, or friends. When you come to the obstacle & judge, you perform the obstacle 1 at a time. The trail rides usually take from 2-3 hours. Ribbons and prizes are given to 1st -6th place for Open, Pleasure, and the Junior divisions. Jackpot cash may also be awarded. These rides provide a natural setting for your horse and are a lot of fun! At the very least you will enjoy seeing great countryside on horseback and get to know a network of horse lovin trail riders such as yourself! Dont worry if youre not an ACTHA member, youll still be able to participate in the trail challenge to see what its all about. Who knows? You might just decide to go ahead and join. Visit actha.us for more information. Tired yet from all this riding? Hopefully youll still have enough energy left to eat with us on Sunday night. Thats right - weve also got you covered for Sunday night dinner. Oh yeah, and Kip Sweeny will be on stage Sunday night teaching line dancing after dinner. Well have another campfire that night near the stage so we still want you to come visit with us even if youre a wallflower and dont like to dance. All good things do come to an end, and this ride is no exception. We are asking that everyone be packed up and heading out on Monday morning, no later than 11:00 am. Just to clarify - we are providing you with three meals - Saturday lunch, Saturday night dinner, and Sunday night dinner. All other meals are on your own. The minimum donation per attendee is $50.00 and is paid directly to the Osceola County Sheriffs Office in support of their summer Adventure Camp. Small dogs will be allowed this year and they must stay in your camp. They are not allowed on the trail ride and may not be brought into the vendor or entertainment areas. We are sensitive to the fact that your pets are your family members and we know that there are plenty of riders who would not be able to attend a multi-day event if they were not allowed. We are asking, however, that you respect the other riders at this event and keep your dogs at your campsite and not let them be a nuisance to others. Dont forget to bring your own chairs - youll need them to enjoy the nightly entertainment. Now for the finer details of what you need to do to attend: Visit kirchmanfoundation.org and click on our Current/Upcoming Events tab. Scroll down to the trail ride information and there are 4 forms that need to be printed out and returned. The address and/or email where the forms need to be sent are on the registration form. If you have any other questions or need additional information, please contact Rich Adair at 407 709-1745 or Rex Rowe at 407 908-9466. Lieutenant Roger Haddock, a 20 year veteran of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, was an exceptional law enforcement trainer and longtime head of the Sheriff’s Office Training Unit. He also was an avid and expert horseman. He combined both his skill as a trainer and his passion for horses when he assumed command of the Mounted Patrol Unit, leading this very successful team in everything from participation in community and educational events to patrol and other law enforcement operations. On March 12, 2000, while serving as the Mounted Unit supervisor at the Osceola County Wagon and Trail Ride, Lt. Haddock died in the line of duty when his horse reared and fell on top of him. We remember Lt. Haddock as an upbeat and genuine person with enthusiasm for everything he did. He was a mentor to many and a great example to all. Lt. Haddock was very proud and supportive of the Sheriff’s Office Adventure Camp. This annual trail ride celebrates not only his name but the things that Lt. Haddock believed in: the importance of outdoor life in building character, horses and the people that love and enjoy them and, most of all, the children who benefit from the Sheriff’s Adventure Camp.
