3rd Grade Grand Final Preview Souths v University Saturday 16th August 2014 3:20pm With over half of the starting team eligible for Masters Rugby, this team will be taking on a fresh-faced University team. This “5th Grade” group are returning to finals for a second year, we have the trophy firmly in our sights and second place is not where we want to finish. We have had a majority of last year’s squad with the inclusion of Troy “Prop” Johnston and his sidekick Simon “perpetual motion” Lindop. We have also been bolstered with some young blood in Tyler Stacey, Kirby O’Brien, Justin Cannon and Tom Gehrke. We now possess a mix of youth and experience that has seen us with only 3 losses during the regular season. Uni were undefeated all year until the visited the nest and they have been the benchmark for a couple seasons now. Our friends from St Lucia have also gotten special dispensation for a Premier Grade and Australian Under 20s rep to take the field. We shall welcome him in true 5th grade style. They will be a huge challenge but our whole season we have been working for this. What our team bring to the game is a tough forward pack led by the engine room of Todd Pepper and Tim Filmer and a backline directed by Adam Bligh and Troy Johnston that can punch holes anywhere. We will need all the support we get! Players to watch: Toddy Pepper – South’s answer to Clive Palmer, Todd is one of the nice guys of Souths Rugby. At the tender age of 40 his shoulders transform into sledgehammers when he takes the field. Look and listen out for the shots! Simmo – This bloke just doesn’t stop and plenty of quality. Moses – Footwork, speed and knows how to find the tryline.
