#4 Make Sleep Your Priority Healthy New Year Tip #4: Make Sleep a Priority! I LOVE TO EAT..BUT SLEEPING IS JUST AS IMPORTANT IF NOT MORE SO! Living healthier is just as much about getting enough sleep as it is about eating right and exercising. Sleep should be as important in your everyday routine as going to work and showering. It is a critical element to your physical and mental well-being. A body without sleep is physically and mentally anguished. Furthermore, sleeplessness may be a component of weight gain. According to the National Sleep Foundation, approximately 47 million Americans are putting themselves at risk for injury, health and behavior problems because they aren’t getting enough sleep every night. Healthy living experts recommended you get seven to eight hours of sleep nightly. Most people don’t get the adequate amount of sleep and operate on a “sleep debt.” To catch up, try to get enough sleep every day for four to six weeks, plus a little bit more to pay back the debt. Get that extra sleep back by going to bed at least an hour earlier, and make sure not to do any major activity right before bedtime. If your mind is racing at night, write down your thoughts/concerns. Keep a notebook by the side of your bed and write down everything running through your head. Writing it down allows your mind to forget it and the list is there when you wake up. You probably have years of sleep to catch up on. Start catching up tonight.
