4 UR EYES ONLY! Today many people have not achieved their dreams because they think they are disadvantaged. Whereas some do not have any dream at all. How sad! Sad because it is on record that disadvantaged men the world over at one time or the other became the “movers” and “shakers” of their generation[s]. Look at what the Bible writes of Absolom. “… Absalom (would) rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee. Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him. And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel”. The above is Absolom for you. While others were properly sleeping he used to wake up early and strategically positioned himself for the day’s business and through this one weapon of consistency he won the hearts of the men of Israel. And you know something? He succeeded in his plans of unseating his father, King David. But because his plan was ungodly God overturned it. This by extension means that if your visions are godly no one will be able to stop you from realizing them. In our contemporary times many “disadvantaged” men have become renowned men. A man popularly known by his nick name, “Sparky”, did not have much success earlier in life. While in school he flunked Latin, Algebra, English and Physics. He made the golf team but lost the only match that could have launched him into stardom. Perhaps it could not have been so disastrous for him if he had made it at the consolation match. Socially he was awkward perhaps more “shyer” than you. The story has it that he never asked any girl for a date for once while in the high school. But in this bad situation he paid a close attention to drawing (artwork) even though no one else appreciated his works. He submitted his cartons severally to the editors of his school’s magazine but they rejected each time. After high school he sent his works to other organizations but luck never shun on him. At this point he chose to write his autobiography in carton. By the time stocks were taken Sparky, whose real names are Charlie Brown became a celebrity and the gains from his works and patent rights did not only enrich him, but became a springboard for others. Wilma Rudolph was a premature baby and as such her survival was in doubt. But I guess it was not a big problem because she was the 20th out of the 22 children her family had. At age 4 she contacted double pneumonia alongside scarlet fever and was paralyzed in her left leg. By the time she turned 9, she removed the metal leg brace that was a support to her damaged leg and began to walk without it. At age 13 her walking skills were normal and her doctors could not help but to call it a miracle. In the course of life she develop interest in sports and in her first competition, she the last. This did not deter him because she kept training and running and by the time stocks were taken, she had won 3 Olympic gold medals for herself. Yet this was the very girl medical doctors once said that she will never walk. Alexander Graham Bell’s invention of telephone in 1876 was a thing of ridicule to President Rutherford Hayes because after making a “demonstration call” it did not ring off the hook with calls from potential backers. Hear him! “That’s an amazing invention, but who would ever want to use one of them”. Today, if former American President Rutherford Hayes was alive he could have eaten his word. Norma Jean Baker, a model hopeful was told in 1944 by Emmeline Snively, director of the Blue Book Modeling Agency, “You’d better learn secretarial work or else get married.” (Because perhaps he thought she was wasting her time). This did not deter her and as such years after she became Marilyn Monroe, a great model of her time. It was quite disheartening for young Thomas Edison, the man who invented the light bulb to go home with a note from his class teacher which reads in part, “you are a good for nothing person, you will not become anything in life, you are a waste of time to your parents and generation”. When stocks were taken, Edison had invented a light bulb. Hey, pause for a while and look inwards, then ask yourself for what you are good at. The moment you answer this question go and do like those great men that succeeded against all the odds of this life. This was what I did few years ago to have six of my books in circulation around the globe today.
