4 years ago tonight, my best friend Cody Barnett took a walk out to the country side of Trenton, ND. He sat on the ground and leaned back against a fence post, probably gazing up at the stars, breathing in the crisp spring air, thinking over his young 22 of life. He had been through a lot in his short life. The loss of his sister, he had an accident that left him with a broken neck and a DUI, which he recovered . A short time away from his family and friends while he dealt with the ramifications of Driving Under the Influence, along with a few other charges which he willing did his time. New Years Eve of 2009 we met for the first time at an AA meeting at the 515 Club, and an amazing friendship was started. Recovery was both of our Number 1 priorities, and learning how to Live again! Even tho we had only known each other for a few short months, we had grown very close, each sharing with one another our deepest secrets and our paralyzingly fears. My Mom LOVED Cody like he was her own, offering our home to him to live, so he could continue his dedication to his Sobriety and possibly attend MSU following his desire to better his life. Somehow during the weekend away, while visiting his sister and her family in Trenton, Cody went to the countryside, leaned against the fence post, possibly gazing At the stars, in the crisp spring air, closed his eyes maybe dreaming of a better life... He was found in the early morning hours of March, 17th, 2010, leaning up against a fence post in the middle of a field, his head down, as if he were sleeping....... His gun laying beside him. I miss him every single day, and I hold on to the dream that God sent his Angles down to embrace him in their wings, and take him HOME.
