41683 Private Frederick William Bailey 1st Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment Frederick Bailey came from Raunds and was the son of Charles and Eliza Bailey who lived at 69 Marshalls Road. He was a conscript and before being called up had been employed as a shoe hand at Adams Brothers shoe factory. Fred had also been a member of the Raunds Temperance Band. He was killed on 26 October 1917 during the 1st South Stafford’s attack south of Gheluvelt. His body was identified after the war and he was brought to Hooge Crater Cemetery for burial, where he can be found in Plot X, Row H, Grave 14.
