42 Life Lessons Worth Sharing, Gina A. Rudan Every year for my birthday I reflect on the greatest lessons of the year that has passed. As a woman who lives at the very edges of my identity, with the energy of the ocean and the ravenous curiosity of a child, I have to say this past year has been a life-changing one. Here’s what I learned this time around: 1. Know you are where you are supposed to be. 2. Don’t want what you already have. 3. Creativity is most often unleashed during moments of stillness. 4. Pain is the feeling of growth. Don’t try to avoid it; instead, lean into it. 5. Be a collector of people and experiences that make you happy. 6. Our greatest teachers are often those with four legs. 7. Take care of your body because your health and fitness have an impact on every aspect of your life. 8. Non-transactional relationships make the world a better place. 9. Fear, not money, is the root of all evil. 10. Pay attention to the spiritual dimension within. Spirituality matters! 11. Pay attention to the needs of your inner child. She still matters. 12. Quit obsessing over where you’re going and enjoy where you are. 13. Learning to love yourself unconditionally is the greatest success you can experience. 14. Be a student of your own passions and don’t let anyone stop you from chasing them. 15. It is always best to surrender to love. 16. The energy you put out into to the world is the energy you get back from the world. 17. Say “no” to the vampires in your life and “yes!” to the feeders. 18. Change in all forms is good for the mind. 19. Daily meditation is the secret to sustaining my genius. 20. The body is the keeper of your aspirations, invest in it. 21. You are what you eat. High-protein and vegetable diet with little to no carbs is what fuels me best. 22. This genius doesn’t drink! 23. Find convergence in everything you do. Life, work, creativity, innovation, romance, adventure and service should always blend together in how you live your life. 24. Balance is bullshit! 25. The Future is in the hands of Fat Brains! If you don’t have a herd of millennials in your life you are missing out on the some of the best relationships you’ll ever have. 26. Transcend boxes and labels and curate your life and identity around your values. 27. We’re all capable of being innovators, but innovation can be accessed only with experimentation. 28. Do it your way! Instead of managing, leading, creating and or living out your life based on the expectations of others, do it your own way. 29. Confidence is a choice you should make for yourself every single day. 30. Don’t take your partners for granted and remember you will always get back from any relationship what you put in. 31. Make time to pursue your passions, no matter how busy you are. 32. Your friends are the family you adopt for yourself. Remember they matter more than your career, your worries, or your fears. Love your friends abundantly. 33. Small talk is stupid. Have meaningful conversations with everyone around you. Stories are the best accessories to a day. 34. Chase your curiosities. 35. The best experiences are almost always the unplanned ones. 36. Exercise your body to exercise your brain. Hint: Breathe! 37. We are the stories we tell. Always speak your truth. 38. Your thoughts absolutely create your reality. 39. The people in your life who are hard to love are those who need it the most. Love openly. 40. Life is damn short, play full out! 41. Get rid of anything in your environment that isn’t useful, beautiful, or joyful. 42. Learn to say “no,” but at the same time, give yourself permission to say “yes” more!
