4Robbers killed 4 in Lagos hotel, Written by Lanre Adewole - Lagos and Tunde Ogunesan - Ibadan FOUR people, including a popular hotelier, were early Sunday killed as dare devil armed robbers invaded an hotel in Ajah area of Lagos State. Some vehicles belonging to the hotel and some guests were set on fire by the angry armed robbers, who reportedly escaped with money and other valuables. An unidentified member of the armed robbery gang was, however, killed by a team of policemen, who responded to a distress call at the hotel. The imagemaker in charge of the state police command, Ngozi Braide, however, stated that only the hotelier and one of the robbers were killed in the incident. About four other guests at the hotel were severely injured in the incident that has been described by policemen as a reprisal. The Nigerian Tribune gathered that a team of about twenty policemen had at about 3.00 a.m. on Sunday invaded the hotel to avenge the arrest of the leader of the gang. The armed robbers had reportedly accused the hotel owner of providing information that led to the arrest of their leader and ensured that they killed him before they left the hotel. They also ransacked all the rooms in the hotel and killed at least three of the guests, injuring no fewer than four others and attempted to set the hotel on fire. Braide, while speaking on the incident said, “The Area Commander received a distress call and quickly swung into action. He and a team of policemen raced down to the scene. The robbers saw them and opened fire, while attempting to escape.” “The police chased the robbers and there was an exchange of gunfire. One of the robbers was killed and an AK47 rifle recovered from him.” Braide also added that “it was after the policemen entered the hotel that they discovered that the owner of the hotel had been killed. People in the hotel told policemen that the robbers shot and killed the hotel owner because they believed he was the person who gave information to SARS which led to the arrest of their leader.” Meanwhile, there was pandemonium at the popular Oje Market, Ibadan, on Sunday as two people lost their lives when a police officer shot them in an alleged confrontation with hoodlums. Nigerian Tribune learnt that trouble began when some commercial okada riders, resisted attempts by some hoodlums to extort money from them in the neighbourhood, leading to the death of one Ojo Obisesan, who died on the spot. Obisesan, Nigerian Tribune learnt, was involved with ticket distribution to some okada riders, but trouble ensued when some of the okada riders started an argument with him. It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer, Agugu Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Timothy Adedeji, who was alleged to have come with a Toyota car, was on patrol in the area, went to the scene to surpress the fight. However, his attempt to disperse the crowd with his riffle led to the death of Obisesan, around Oje market. The second person, Nigerian Tribune gathered, met his untimely death when the police mobilised to retrieve Adedeji’s riffle, alleged to have been forcefully snatched from him by the mob in protest of Obisesan’s death. In the process, an unnamed person in the crowd who was alleged to have been with the riffle carelessly shot in an attempt to attack the police team. Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, said, “the two policemen were rescued from the mob’s attack. The mob later regrouped and went to Agugu Police Division, apparently to attack the station. The situation was brought under control through reinforcement.” модули joomla 2.5 Read 41 times
