Rich and creamy, they add that something special that makes meals heavenly and guilt free! 1. Swapping two tablespoons of regular mayonnaise for a 1/4 of a small avocado (30g) in a tuna mix would decrease more than half the total fat content and boost the nutrient content of the meal. 2. Layering butter (10g - two teaspoons) on your toast at breakfast would add 301kJ, 8,1g of fat and 57mg of sodium to your breakfast meal. Simply exchanging the butter for triple the amount of mashed avo (30g) with fresh lemon juice and some ground black pepper will drop those values to 201,6kJ, 4,5g total fat and 2,1 mg of sodium. 3. The potassium content of 30g of avo (1/4 small avo) is equal to 145,5mg, the same amount of potassium that you would find in a third of a small banana. There is more potassium in an avo than in a banana, a great help for people trying to reduce their blood pressure! 4. Ditch the sour cream dip at a braai for an avo guacamole and reduce the total saturated fat content from 19g per 100g (almost four teaspoons of butter) to 2g of saturated fat in avo (less than half a teaspoon of butter). 5. Crackers and cheese a favourite of yours? A matchbox sized block of cheddar cheese contains 10g of fat and 186,3mg of sodium. Using the same amount of avo spread onto a cracker with freshly sliced tomato and black pepper would drop total fat content to 4,5g and the sodium to 2,1mg.
