5 years ago today my world turned upside down. 5 years ago last night, we had our last conversation and I knew then that I was loosing you. It was all so surreal and yet completely filled with reality at the same time. You kept looking up to the right, saying there was an old man up the hill. You said that old man just wanted you to come up and see something. My heart and my mind knew what that meant. These things, I havent remembered until recently. There are many things I still dont remember but they come back slowly, with time, as God knows I am prepared to handle the emotion of the memories. This morning 5 years ago, I untied your right hand and placed mine in it. The nurse that day came in, took your hand from mine and tied it back down to the bed. He was doing his job, I knew that, so I waited until he finished what he was doing and quietly untied your hand again, placing mine in yours one last time. The doctors settled in your room, discussing the fact that everything possible had been done and a decision must be made. I wouldnt wish that decision upon anyone. I understand now that you were never mine, you always belonged to God, as we all do. Thats a difficult concept for a human mind to grasp. My faith, however, was growing and continues to grow with the understanding that our stories in this world are ours to live but Gods to write. In these moments 5 years ago I could have never imagined where I now stand in my life. This is such a bittersweet day and will always be…my heart aches having lost you but soars knowing you are up above, enjoying a Heavenly eternity. My world has amazingly turned back around as God has continued to pour his blessings upon my life through understanding, love and sweet additions to my family…none of which I would have believed would happen on that October morning 5 years ago.
