5k race video: cnu-captains-classic-and-combined-events.runnerspace/eprofile.php?event_id=6627&do=videos&video_id=112534 What an awesome 5k last night for the men! Last year we started a tradition of doing a team 5k at our last home meet, and this year we did the same. HUGE SUCCESS! Even the mid-distance guys join in; actually, most are now ASKING to be a part of it, and find it to be a great event! With sophomore Andrew Benfer pacing the first group, we had six guys run between 15:28-15:38! Then, with freshman Matt Danisewicz helping group two, we had five more run between 16:33-17:01. The teamwork this group shows during the race is everything I could hope for. The selflessness of a few guys up front allowed that entire front pack to stay so close together. The selflessness of a few in the second group gave up huge PR opportunities in order for other teammates to gain even more meaningful ones. My greatest excitement of the race was for senior Eric Ginsburg. He has spent the last three years completely bought in, and had many personal bests along the way, but with a giant barrier of breaking 17min in the 5k on his mind. Last year we set this race up the same way and he ran 17:02. This year we avoided the longer races, and worked on building confidence through 1500s and trusting the last three years of training for the aerobic side of things. He blew away that barrier and ran 16:38! So proud! The rest of the results are... Jj LaPointe (fr) 15:28 ... PR Daniel Richard (jr) 15:31 ... ran 9:32 in the 3k SC earlier! Billy Rabil (fr) 15:35 ... debut! Sam Martin (jr) 15:36 ... debut! Brad Turner (jr) 15:37 ... PR Aaron Zook (sr) 15:38 ... PR Charlie Pruitt (fr) 16:09 ... has PR of 15:55 Will Bruner (fr) 16:33 ... 1min PR! Dylan Freeman (fr) 16:38 ... debut - paced Eric entire way! Eric Ginsburg (sr) 16:38 Zach Campbell (fr) 17:00 ... debut Ricardo Cabrera (fr) 17:01 ... debut Matthew Margopoulos (fr) ... PR Again, thanks to Benfer and Danisewicz for their pacing duties, and Im confident that Benfer would be with that first pack, and Danisewicz wouldve finished with the 16:40 crew. Bodes great for the future of this entire group when there are 9 Fr, 1 So, and 3 Jr in this group! And thank you to Ginsburg and Zook for being great senior leaders of this group!
