New China Pesticide MRLs Standard New China National Food Safety Standards on Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides in Foods (GB2763-2012) will come into force on March 1, 2013. Consequently, previous related national standards and agricultural industry standards of maximum residue limits of pesticides will be repealed. The new standard will be the single national standard for domestic pesticide residue in food safety monitoring system. This will avoid overlap of maximum residue limits in different standards which has previously affected the law enforcement of related government departments. The mandatory standard covers 2,293 residue limits for 322 pesticides in ten main categories of agricultural products and foods in the local daily consumption (such as vegetables, fruits, tea and edible mushrooms). The elaboration of these MRLs was based on the risk assessment and the data from the field trials and residual monitors in China. In addition, test methods are also identified for determining compliance of the agricultural products and foods with relevant MRLs.
