6 Months in Jail for Trying to Start a Race War. 40 Years for Stealing a Necklace. The leader of a white supremacist group who trained militants for a coming race war was sentenced to only six months in prison this month. Meanwhile, as was reported earlier this year, Franklin Frye has spent over four decades in prison for allegedly stealing a $20 necklace. The Washington Times reports that Frye was sentenced to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. in 1971 when he pleaded insanity for stealing the necklace. “They locked me up for no reason,” he told the paper. “They never found the necklace on me I don’t know if they ever found it.” Frye never stood trial because he pleaded insanity, which meant he was allowed to languish in prison for decades at the Washington D.C. psychiatric hospital. “Mr. Frye has been waiting over five years to have this motion heard by the court,” his current lawyer, Silvana Naguib wrote in January. In 2008 a motion was filed for unconditional release on Frye’s behalf but it arrived on the docket of a dead judge and was allowed to go unanswered years. Although Frye does suffer from a mental illness, Frye’s brother, William Frye, says no one should be institutionalized for life over a burglary. “Now he can hardly stand up because of all the medications he’s on, and I don’t think they can justify why they’re giving him all of this medicine,” William Frye said. “He’s much worse now.” Meanwhile, a racist white supremacist who plotted a race war was let off with a slap on the wrist earlier this month. Marcus Faella was head of The American Front when authorities arrested him for teaching hand to hand combat to racists. The prosecutor showed an Armed Front poster with armed masked men lighting a Molotov cocktail above a message: “Because racial survival is never on the ballot.” “That is the only reason anyone would choose to decorate their home,” she said. “These are the images that go through Marcus Faella’s head as he is teaching.” Faella, 41, the only member of the white supremacist group who didn’t have their charges dropped before trial, was found guilty on two counts of teaching and conducting paramilitary training. Is this justice?
