65 years ago today, my great grandfather John Jack Allan passed away at just 51 years of age leaving behind a widow (Irene Margaret Peg Allan née Skehan) and 6 children. It would also be the second son that his parents, partially his mother, Esther, would have to bury. A keen tennis player and a community mind fellow, he would spend the remaining years of his life serving as the President of Milawa Football Club. A memorial trophy was erected in his honor, with his eldest born son, Kevin, was to be the first honoree of this trophy for Best and Fairest in his senior football group. But his enduring legacy to his descendants is his family connection to the Kelly Outbreak on his mothers side and it is a connection that I am proud of. RIP Poppa Allan
