78 years ago today, Arkansas saw one of the hottest days in the states history. In fact, the day saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in the state, with 120 degrees at Ozark in Franklin County. Arkansas would come dangerously close in August of 2011, when the Forest Service RAWS station at Silver Hill recorded a high temperature of 116 degrees on the 3rd. Most stations reached 110 degrees or higher. Most stations in the state recorded what would be their all-time hottest temperatures at the time, until being tied or broken in 1954, 1986, or 2011. The first image is the monthly summary from the August 1936 Arkansas Climatological Data Publication. The second image is a map of the hottest temperatures recorded that day.
