8 ways to keep fit in Bondi during the Christmas holidays! Long lunches and big nights are hallmarks of the party season, but there are more ways to get active during the Christmas break than by showing what you’re made of on the dance floor or walking to the fridge for another beer. Use the down time to catch up with friends in the great outdoors and get a workout at the same time. 1. Backyard cricket A great Aussie favourite. Choose a backyard, park, beach or street, call some mates, gather up your cricket bat, some balls and stumps (… or a nearby bin or upside-down-bucket), and you’re in business. 2. Trail walk/run There’s no shortage of mountains, national parks and coastal areas to explore. Get a group together and put your best foot forward on a challenging trail. 3. Biking Got a bike? Find a few friends who have got them too and organise a day trip. 4. Snorkelling Snorkelling is an ideal way to unwind, get active and discover the phenomenal marine life our waters have to offer. 5. Beach volleyball Take to the sand with a game of beach volleyball. Play one on one, or get a bigger group together and go head-to-head in teams of up to six a side. Great full body workout and serious fun, too. Bondi Beach have courts that can be booked through Waverley Council. 6. Paintball There’s nothing like a bit of healthy rivalry to ignite the senses and get the blood pumping. Round up some friends and head out for a game of paintball to rekindle your sense of adventure. 7. Frisbee Who doesn’t like a game of Frisbee? All you need is a flying disc, a pair of legs, your mates and a wide-open grassy space. 8. Touch football Fun and competitive, touch football is also a massive calorie burner that develops your speed, agility and coordination. Get Amongst It! Use your imagination to think of new ways to get active and social over the festive break. Don’t laze the holidays away, they’re brief. Make plans to catch up with friends, enjoy the sunshine and try new activities together. You’ll find you enjoy the break more, and kick off 2014 feeling refreshed and ready to take on the what’s ahead.
