80 years ago today a brilliant man was born. Carl Sagan was a was an astronomer, who greatly contributed to our knowledge of the universe. He contributed to discoveries about, Venus, Mars and Jupiter and was central to the development of the golden record. The record, which was attached to the Voyager 1 space probe, contains pictures and sounds from earth and even a map which could be used to find our small blue planet. It was sent out in hopes of encountering extraterrestrial life or as a time capsule, that one day in the future, humans might stumble upon in their trek across the galaxy. He also inspired generations of people (including myself) to learn about science and wonder at the majesty of the universe. (Watch his Cosmos series if you havent seen it.) He was more than just a scientist, however. He was a humanist and philosopher, with the kind of mind that only comes once in a generation. Ill leave you all with this video. Enjoy. https://youtube/watch?v=kmP4Xzt0rN4
