80s Flashback: The chart for this week in 1982 contains many of what I would call staple songs of the era. Hearing some of these tunes make me quite nostalgic, missing the 80s music radio station I once programmed, Retro Radio 95-Z, which was on 95.9 FM, in Roanoke Rapids, N. C.. This song was at #6 this week in 1982, after its peak at #1 in October. It was recorded in 1981, prior to recording their debut album, Business As Usual. It reached #2 in their home country, Australia. In mid-1982, a successful Canadian release, which also yielded a #2 hit, spurred a U. S. release. The song remains an important symbol of new wave music (80s-speak for alternative) and its influence on pop music.
