80th Birthday Bash: It is hard to keep a secret from 35 year veteran alderman Freeman R. Bosley Sr. Linda Primer his right hand insisted that it be kept a surprised and looking at the expression on his senior Bosleys face it was. With him were 7 siblings, all over 80 except my good friend, former opera diva June Bosley who is knocking on that door within the next several years. All of the Boz kids were there headed up my first African-American Mayor for St. Louis Attorney Freeman R. Bosley Jr., Developer Steve Stone, County Executive Charlie Dooley (with a proc); Collector of Revenue Gregory F.X. Daly, Aldermen including Jeffrey Boyd, Marlene Davis, Lewis Reed (prez); Shane Cohn, Chryssi, and Hubbard; Damon Jones, Committeeman; then license collector Mavis Thompson, activist James Clark, state senator Jamilah Nasheed, Rodney Hubbard, lobbyist to the big wheels, Bill and Michelle Duffe,Whirl editor-in-chief Anthony Sanders, and standing out like a super star, Mike McMillan, president of the Urban League of Metropolitan St Louis and a couple of hundred more. The party was at the Rustic Goat in the Washington Avenue loft district. Sorry if I overlooked anyone, just too many people to recall. Bosley is a cool 80 year old guy, who came into my marketing/communication office on Lindell when I just officially started that biz in 1982. I was surprised not to see several long-time City Hall colleagues at this event, many not as old, but out of courtesy one should have showed up, if in fact they were invited.
