#83 #WOMANSERA I am 36 and my husband is 40. Both of us have good jobs and we have been married for ten years. When we got married we decided to postpone starting a family till we were financially secure. By this we meant that we should have got promotions, should have a sizable amount of money in the bank, should have bought a car and should have paid off the EMIs on a house. I also made it clear that I wanted to be a stay-at-home mother for five years after having a baby. Now that we have achieved all that we wanted to achieve, I recently brought up the question of having a baby. To my shock, my husband said that we had a lot more to achieve before we could become parents. He said that we had to buy a second car, go on foreign trips, buy a holiday home in a hill station and do many other things before tying ourselves down with parenthood. When I kept silent out of shock, he went on to say that actually he did not particularly want a child at all. We were having a great life, he said and this would be disrupted if we became parents. We had to go out after that so I said nothing, but now I am wondering what to do. I can’t imagine never having a child, but I don’t want my husband to be an unwilling father either.
