84% of Spain fans want Manchester United’s De Gea to replace Iker Casillas in goal [MARCA Survey] Tweet 45 0 Share 408 Like 453 0 ← Previous Story Next Story → Real Madrids Raphaël Varane scores a couple of nice headers at France training [Video] ← Previous Story Cos hes the best, and for his girlfriend! The Real Madrid man was at fault for both Slovakia goals as La Roja slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat in their Euro qualifier. For the first, he inexplicably dived out of the way, as the free-kick was hit straight at him, which was an error in judgement and concentration, while on the second his positioning was poor, and he looked a bit flappy on Stoch’s saveable header. It’s harsh to blame Casillas for the defeat, when the European champions could only score one goal against Slovakia, and Del Bosque left the defence naked with just Gerard Pique to protect the keeper – but such is the lot of the goalkeeper, for better or worse. Marca have run a survey this morning, asking ‘Has the time come for David De Gea to be Number 1?’ From 8,534 votes, it’s a landslide victory for De Gea, taking 83.7% (7,143) of the votes from Marca readers, with just 16.3% for the beatified Spanish legend Iker Casillas (the voting is still open, but the die is cast, as they say). Casillas’ slump in form and confidence has coincided with De Gea’s best moment; the Manchester United keeper is on anstoppable upward curve, and had arguably his best ever game against Everton last week. And at 23 years of age and with 100 Premier League appearances under his belt, he’s a kid no more. Del Bosque has a serious decision to make f0r La Roja’s next qualifier
