8th May 2014 - Some of my friends who just returned from Jomolhari Base camp gave me the status of the trek route garbage. My friends picking garbage on their back to Paro and managed to collect 5 bag full (as much as they could carry back) although there were more garbage. Discussions held with several stakeholders at individual level. There are dustbins along the trail but it is overflowing and wondering whose responsibility to empty. 1. Some say we need dustbins and also mechanism to bring back the waste. 2. Some say we dont need dustbins alone the trail as it an eyesore 3. Some say horsemen should be responsible to bringing back the waste as they trot down hill empty 4. Some say charge a fee for waste management of all the trails in Bhutan 5. Some say TO should be responsible to bring back the trash - but it is not the tourists who litters instead it the locals (??) 6. Some say it is the Parks responsibility / National Environment Commission / environmental NGOs etc.....
