9/17/13 There is a new song on my heart to bring to CrossRoads - TopicsExpress

9/17/13 There is a new song on my heart to bring to CrossRoads soon. It is very simple and is mostly written out of the songs of heaven, documented in the book of Revelation. It doesn’t get any better than that! But there is a line that says, “day and night, night and day, let incense rise.” Now, I have sung several songs over the years that use the word incense, but I never really thought too much about it. I knew it was Biblical and that was good enough for me! This time, however, I felt like I should think about that phrase a little more. Personally, I don’t really like incense. The couple times I’ve been around it, it made my eyes water and my nose itchy. But they used it in the Temple in Jerusalem and it’s in heaven, so maybe I won’t mind it there! I’m sure there are all kinds of symbolic meanings for incense, but I just wanted to share a couple personal thoughts I had, as I asked the Holy Spirit about it. Incense causes an aroma, and that aroma depends upon what is being burned. Ever been around a garbage dump that was burning trash? Not a pretty smell! Jeremiah 6:19, 20 says to keep your offering, don’t even bother with your sacrifice on the altar (your incense burning), if you aren’t going to keep His Word. (Starlene paraphrase) What are we offering to the Lord in our worship? A heart of sweet surrender or a life-style of “doing our own thing?” We want our worship to smell fragrant to God. That doesn’t mean we have it all together! But if we have a surrendered heart, as we worship, the “All-Consuming Fire” ... another name for God ... can come and continue the good work He has begun in us by burning away more of the garbage in our lives! Yeah!!! So what smells good to God? What are some things that send up that whisp of aroma that delights His heart? How about a surrendered life, full of love and faith! Let’s send up a sweet fragrance to the Lord as we worship the King who lives forever! LET’S WORSHIP Starlene
