9/29/13 When life deals you a ton of tomatoes, make some cream of tomato soup! We harvested a ton of Black Krims over the weekend with more to come, so I made a huge batch of cream of tomato soup (sauteed in olive oil with garlic, onion, carrots, fresh basil, parmesan, a pinch of cayenne & salt, and tomato paste, then pureed with an emulsion blender). I also found a ginormous 18" long Costata Romanesco zucchini in the zucchini bed (as pictured on top of one of the buckets of tomatoes that Gil is holding). Impressive, but most certainly not palatable because of its size These Italian heirlooms are best harvested at around 6" when they are at the peak of tenderness.
