97 miles completed. 65 to go. Thats the score as of now. Soon after my departure from Dalmeny station I reached my halfway point of the total hike. I enjoyed a lovely Firth Of Forth shore walk on Dalmeny Estate, which also included woodland walking. The shore at Dalmeny showed to be very good for bird watching and autumn colours are already starting to show on some trees. I wouldnt call it a quiet walk as every 5 minutes or so a plane takes off eastwards from Edinburgh Airport. The rest of the walk wouldnt be quiet either as todays walk would predominantly lead through suburbs of Edinburgh. It was interesting enough to see an Edinburgh that I usually wouldnt visit. Mind you, interesting with pleasant parts at best. I mean no disrespect if in all honesty I say that todays leg was the least attractive so far. Heading for the North Sea coast after today my expectations rise again. Highlights of todays walk? Apart from Dalmeny Estate also Corstorphine Hill Nature Reserve, with Edinburghs largest public woodland, was lovely. It has a walled garden, still full of colours and well taken care of by volunteers. After having climbed up towards Clermiston Tower, a memorial to Walter Scott, I enjoyed watching some zebras on my descent.... No porkies here, I could see them through the fence of Edinburgh Zoo. :) From there on I went past Murrayfield along the Water Of Leith Walkway, finding my way back to the Union canal and its aquaduct between Kngsknowe and Slateford. A bit of canal walk again from here on a very busy towpath, made me realise how much outdoor activity canals entice as you see so many cyclists, joggers, people with prams, canoers and what have ya. Then up to the area by The Meadows, which has a nice buzz to it. This would be the official end of todays leg, but I decided to get some gain on tomorrows. And so I pushed on towards the south side of Arthurs Seat. (No, I didnt go up.) From there I followed the old Innocence Railway towards Brunstane station. Having totalled a good20 miles today I look forward to set off from there tomorrow morning and see how far I get towards North Berwick. As usual, shower and bedtime now. :) Nite nite! justgiving/educationalprogrammes
