A Beam of Light Amongst the Ruins: Eastern North Carolina This fine little Federal cottage from the early 19th century is slowly losing its battle with the elements. Hurricane Irene took off a big portion of the roof a few years ago and even with the owner placing and replacing tarps on the gaping holes, the elements are now taking a major toll on the old place. Almost all of the old plaster has fallen and timbers are rotting with constant moisture. The fine and unusual little piece of architecture has an uncertain future at this point, but I am still hoping that it can and will be saved by the family.
