A Brief History of “Sidhi Astu” Orphanage at Tuka. The “Sidhi Astu” Orphanage in Tuka began in 1958 and started with 10 children. At the beginning there was four sisters and the one who responsible to this community was Sr. Martini Greymans, a Dutch sister. The sisters with the children lived in a simple house at a small village, near the clinic they had started. On the 8th of December 1959 the house had it’s first blessing. By 1970 the number of children had grown to 70. At that time, not all of the children stayed at the orphanage. 30 of them lived in and the rest stayed with their families. Start from March 15, 1998 the orphanage named “SIDHI ASTU” as it received certificate from the Indonesian government and listed at Bali Social Department with registration number: 79/BBS/OS/ORG/1995. After so many years of operation, many has known this well-established orphanage. Some visit only once but many have returned as repeater guest while traveling Bali. Currently, the orphanage is supporting a total of 106 children. 55 of them are living in the orphanage, 20 are living at Negara, west of Bali – where the orphanage has another house for the kids – and the rest, 31 children are living together with their family but the orphanage support for their school fee. There are four Franciscan Sisters that run the orphanage now with the help of both paid staffs as well as volunteer. The sisters are Sr. Clemcia, Sr. Hubertine Ni Wayan Rika, Sr. Barbara and Sr. Corry Artuti.
