A DECEMBER To REMEMBER Tomorrow is Christmas but a different one in the history of sierra Leone. A close friend of mine just text me amerry Christmas and wished me a happy new year in advance. when i saw the text two questions came to mine: is it that my friend didnt hear that there is no merriment during this Christmas? or is it that he is oblivious of the fact that people in sierra Leone are not happy? so is he wishing me a Merry Christmas and a happy new year knowing fully well that there is no merry chrismass neither do we any happy new year. in all my 26th years on planet earth, i have never witness a december as boring as this december. do you want to know why? I will tell u! The presence of the ebola virus disease in our country has deprived us from enjoying this years december. This december should have been the sweetest but for the advent of ebola. sierra Leoneoneans are known to celebrate chrismass in grand styles but this one is an exception only because of Ebola. this year, instead of celebrating chrismass we are mourning the death of our beloved ones. instead of attending canivals we are attending burials. Instead of drinking we are weeping. we will never Foregive ebola for this.The lord will fight for us. Also in this december the Bigest company and Highiest employer in sierra Leone,African mineral,has faced challenges Which has forced it to temporarily stop operation. this has caused the company to ask workers to wait until further notice. Even in the mist of Rebels chrismass is Alwas celebrated. during the ten years war people celebrated chrismass. even the Rebels do. but this year is a different one. At this juncture, i will use this to say chrismass to all but not a merry chrismass and new year but not a happy one. This is a time for reflection and not celebration. This will forever be a december to remember.
