A DOMINANT performance from Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka champion Brad Aiken led the Demons to a resounding 72-point victory over reigning premier Narrandera on Saturday. See your ad here Last year’s grand final is long forgotten but the Demons got to enjoy a second slice of small revenge with an easy win over the Eagles at Crossroads Oval, running out victors 20.14 (134) to 9.8 (62). It was a sharp return to form from the Demons after a bad loss last weekend, while the win virtually spelled the end of Narrandera’s premiership defence. Aiken turned on a vintage best-on-ground display, bagging seven goals and gathering plenty of the footy in a dominant performance. He was closely followed by Matt Beckmans as he played one of his best games since joining the Demons at the start of the season. CAK coach Shane Lenon knew it was a big game for last year’s premier so he was happy to get the points in an important game for both clubs. “They’re getting close to being done and that’s the way we approached it,” Lenon said. “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, their season is on the line and that was the best thing about the win. “Our first quarter was really, really good and as a coach when you work on things during the week and they come off on game day, that’s the pleasing part.” CAK fired straight from the start with five unanswered goals in the opening term putting the Demons in the box seat on their home ground. Another five goals in the second term and the game was all over by half-time with CAK holding a comfortable 52-point advantage. Lenon took a back seat for the game, controlling the rotations but let the leadership group of Geoff Spriggs, Brett Lenon, Chris Gow and Kal Sykes take the coaching reins. He was happy with how everything went. “They took the team meeting on Thursday night right through to everything on game day,” Lenon said. “You’ve got them there for a reason so it’s good to share the responsibility.” See your ad here Apart from Aiken and Beckmans, defenders Will Haines and Kal Sykes were very good for the Demons. Josh Meiselbach got through his first game back from a hand injury unscathed, while Caleb Vearing (Port Melbourne) and Chris Jackson (injury) both missed the game. Mark Flack, Nic Hetherington and Phil Aumann were best for Narrandera on a dirty day.
