Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc. ________________________________ Giving God Our Future I thank the Lord that He has made my consecration to Him a reality so far, and that He has given me more and more light upon the subject, both in respect to its importance and its effects. Now I see plainly that although I completely desired and intended, before this definite act of consecration, to give up myself wholly to the Lord and to lose my will in His, yet because of not having actually and definitely yielded myself up to Him, I left a little loophole for the flesh to exert itself, and whenever temptation did overcome me, it did not seem very bad. But now, although I can’t make any more promises for the future than before, yet I find a great difference in my way of looking at it. I feel that the future belongs to God as really as a present given to Him, and to think of taking back any moment of it into my own hands fills me with horror. Before, I might be able to say at any given moment, “I am the Lord’s now, totally and unreservedly; but my will always took comfort in the thought of a future, when perhaps I would not be entirely His and, secretly and almost unconsciously, made a future provision for the flesh “to fulfil the lusts thereof.” But now! Oh my Lord and Master, teach me the depth and reality of this giving up of my whole life to you! Dimly I begin to see it, and I find that my will is slain in a manner I never before experienced.
