Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc. ______________ The Secret of Guidance There must be a complete submission of your will to God, that where He leads you’ll follow; and then you must leave it altogether to Him and don’t worry about it. If the thought comes that you ought to speak or to pray, say at once, “Yes, Lord, I will; only give me something to say if I must speak, and, if I must not, let me forget all about it.” Don’t indulge in self-reflective acts, either of congratulation because you did well, or of distress at having done badly. Let the whole thing go at once, and let your soul return to its rest in the will of God. The Lord will lead you by a right way, and, what if he should call sometimes for things which are hard to flesh and blood follow, I do believe that now you will not shrink back. This rule of guidance applies to everything. The guidance of the Spirit is generally by gentle suggestions or drawings, and not in violent pushes; and it requires great childlikeness of heart to be faithful to it. The secret of being made willing lies in a definite giving up of our will. As soon as we put our will on to God’s side, He immediately takes possession of it and begins to work in us to will and to do of His good pleasure. You have proved this in your own experience, for since the moment when you gave up your will that night, a willingness to do God’s will has come to you almost unconsciously.
