A FRIENDS LETTER TO CANBERRA AND PR TRIGG ....and a few media outlets to boot... Please write to demand this women stand down. Pr. Trigg, It is my will, to bring to your attention my concerns after witnessing the Human Rights inquiry into detention on Christmas Island, on the 22nd August. The lack of factual evidence presented by the Chairperson is very disturbing, and I feel it is my responsibility to request the Government investigate your claims further and hold you personally responsible. My concerns now put in question other claims made by you and the department you represent. It was your responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation into detention, but you were unable to accurately recall the perimeter fencing, armed guards, and claimed detainees are locked up in prison like facilities. I am puzzled why you failed to report the detainees have access to swimming lessons, Tai Chi/Yoga, participate in community sporting events, have a Persian band, disco and movie nights,music lessons and many other activities that most disadvantaged Australian children are denied. As to the medical services on the island, it is a remote location and the detainees are privileged to many services the locals do not have access to. I find it interesting your department has never campaigned for better medical services when the previous government was in power, or campaigned for improved standards for the residents on Christmas Island. The locals manage most adequately with the standard of service provided, the only complaint being illegal arrivals are given priority over local residents, and very understandably, this has created some angst. My only conclusion after reading your claims, and witnessing your testimony, and from my experience on Christmas Island, is perhaps your memory has been compromised by your political agenda? If this is indeed the case, I find it most disappointing you have compromised your professionalism and ethical conscience by using detainees as pawns for your political agenda. Regards
