A Field Day It was red letter day for Class 4 and 5 children of Eureka Schools at Koovathur and Vembakkam on the 9th of December. Why? The school administrators had arranged a field trip to the big Metropolis, Chennai. The parents were thrilled that their young lads and girls were going to ‘ Patnam’ as villagers usually refer to a City. We overheard parents talking while boarding their children in the School bus on the day of the excursion. “Pasanga Patnathuku poranga” ( Translated- Kids are going to Chennai City) , beaming with pride and leaving the confines of their village! The children on the other hand, had a sense of exaltation, as if they were going to the promised land! Something akin to ‘Disney land’. And we promised more than what they asked for. They witnessed the ongoing ISL football match between Chennaiyin FC and Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It was a pleasure to watch our kids squeak and scream at the stadium. The football match ended in a draw with each team scoring 2 goals. The Chennai team scored 2 goals at the beginning of the match and the Delhi team scored at the end of the match. The Vembakkam Eureka School children have been undergoing football coaching for the last 2 years. Thanks to the Life is a Ball initiative from Phenomenon Sport, Chennai. It was a dream come true for these children to watch this electrifying match live. Thanks to Ashwin from ISL for providing the opportunity for our students to watch the match free of cost. The children then visited the Regional Railway Museum at ICF, Perambur. At the Railway Museum, they had fun watching a presentation, seeing the exhibits at the museum which spanned the history of Indian Railways, riding in the toy train and playing in the Childrens Park. The field trip was a step in the right direction for the children who were coming into their own and for the parents for exposing their children to contemporary incidents. We thank the parents for having the trust in us and the teachers for making these dreams come true for the children. And we would like to tell the Eureka School Children- ‘The world is your Oyster’ Here’s a visual journey of the trip!
