A GLOWING RAY OF EXCELLENCE AND OPTIMISM As student Leaders and members of this great Faculty, we stand resolved to welcoming and celebrating the year 2014 with determination and the spirit of teamwork to foster constructive engagement with our counterparts from other Faculties and Colleges of our great university for the common good. Our mission to achieve strategic progress underpinned by continuity, academic excellence and relevance in all spheres of events and activities of the university is very much on course. Like the black and white slides of the musical notes on the piano, the Social Sciences Society and the various departmental associations need each other for a healthy, resounding and total success. We therefore extend a special welcome to all the various departmental executives in the Social Sciences fraternity. On that score, the Faculty of Social Sciences will never waiver from its drive to shine ever brighter to provide a beacon of civility, hope and inspiration in our continuous partnership to build a strong, resilient and versatile Faculty. The leadership of the Faculty is poised to lead and serve staff and more specifically students. We therefore vide leadership as a natural relational set up in which people go along with people they get along with. But, more importantly this must be done on the foundation of discipline and service rather than emotions and selfishness. We remain resolute and ever ready to gear-up but not to give-up in our crucial decisive moments under the backdrop of wildly excessive bureaucratization, conservatism, and vindictiveness. In that regard, I challenge students to labour hard, collaborate and cooperate between themselves and among their kind in order to promote morality, discipline, commitment, sound judgement and academic excellence. We perceive the year 2014 as one full of hope, excitement, and greater accomplishment, with the Social Scientists and their allies in the humanities taking the centre stage position to provide the vital resource for progress.
